This smoothie is scrummy and my NATURAL ANTI DEPRESSANT. After I have this for breakfast, people have commented that I’m ‘TOO HAPPY’!! And I feel amazing… energised and ready to take on ANYTHING!! This is a perfect smoothie for all those teenagers taking their GCSE’s at the moment!… super brain power!!

Not only does this smoothie taste delicious, all the ingredients are natural and have amazing health benefits and energy stimulating properties.

This smoothie is SEXY, not just it’s taste, but some of these ingredients are renowned for their aphrodisiac affect! A perfect ‘breakfast in bed’ for a sexy Saturday morning ??


BANANAS

Bananas are awesome! They contain loads of essential nutrients such as calcium, manganese, vitamin C, dietary fibre, biotin, copper, potassium, B vits, iron, and antioxidants,

Bananas are shaped like lovely yellow smiles, and this is literally what they are. They contain high levels of tryptophan which converts into the HAPPY neurotransmitter SEROTONIN in your brain.

They protect against numerous diseases, and contribute towards good heart function, lower blood pressure, help rid the body of heavy metals and other toxins. They stabilise blood sugar, a natural prebiotic, natural antacid, strengthen the nervous system and help aid weight loss.


ALMONDS

Almonds are one of the most nutritious nuts available. They contain vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, folic acid, and phytochemicals. Also a significant source of protein and fibre.

Due to the nutrients in dates, they can help protect against numerous cancers, help fight infection, inflammation, protect your eyes and great for your blood.


CACAO

I am a chocoholic and not ashamed of it!! . Raw Cacao has helped me dump unhealthy chocolate bars, biscuits and cakes out of my diet, and I am able to quench my chocolate thirst with homemade delights such as this wonderful smoothie instead!

Cacao is one of the MOST POWERFUL ANTI DEPRESSANTS available. It contains around 300 compounds including protein, calcium, carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, magnesium, sulphur, flavonoids, essential fatty acids, phytochemicals and 20 TIMES MORE ANTIOXIDANTS THAN GOJI BERRIES!


YES ITS GOOD FOR YOU

So raw cacao can lower cholesterol, improve heart function and reduce risk of many cancers…. but I don’t want to talk about all that. Yes it’s good for you, you get that right?

So lets talk about it’s effects on your emotions. And why so many people (including myself) have opted out of drink and drugs for partying, and replaced it with cacao.

Cacao contains compounds which affect the release of neurotransmitters in the brain which cause feelings of euphoria and contentment. One of these compounds is anandamide, also known as ‘chocolate amphetamine’. Anandamide is quite unique in it’s resemblance to THC, a chemical found in marijuana. However, you would have to consume heck of a lot of cacao to get as high as you would smoking pot!

Cacao also contains theobromine which is a mild stimulant, very similar to caffeine.

The first time I consumed raw cacao, I was at a festival and told Luke I thought the chocolate had been ‘spiked’ with something because I was led in my caravan feeling very euphoric and dreamy. I have been buying it regularly in 3kg bags ever since!


MACA

‘Natures Viagra’!!!

Maca is great for energy boosting, and creating strength and stamina.

It has many health benefits due to it’s list of nutrients, including carbohydrates, protein, iron, lipids, calcium, ABUNDANCE OF HEALTHY FATTY ACIDS, and high doses of Vitamin C, B vitamins, and number of alkaloids and minerals.

Mostly Maca is used for it’s positive affects on hormonal health as it regulates the endocrine system, balancing hormones, metabolism, growth, sexual function, reproduction, sleep and mood.


LUCUMA

Lucuma is a highly nutritious fruit and used mostly as an alternative sweetner.

It contains high levels of carotene, B vitamins, 14 essential trace minerals, good source of antioxidants, fibre, healthy carbohydrates, niacin, and minerals including zinc, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron.

It helps protect against cancer, lowers blood pressure, reduces inflammation, and boosts the immune system.


NUTMEG

Nutmeg is one of natures amazing medicines. It has been used to cure leukaemia, pain relief, alleviate oral conditions, reduce insomnia and can prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease as it reduces the degeneration of neural pathways.

It’s nutrients include fibre, manganese, thiamine, Vitamin B6, magnesium and Macelignan… which is the mineral responsible for the positive affect on brain function.

Nutmeg also soothes digestion, detoxifies the body, boosts skin health and improves blood circulation.

It can have psychoactive symptoms if used in large amounts, and due to this people have tried using it recreationally and experienced an over dose with heart palpitations, vomiting and even seizures. You will be fine with a couple of teaspoons though!


CAYENNE PEPPER

This adds the perfect little kick to the drink, but you can leave it out if you don’t like it.

It contains vitamin B6, E, C, riboflavin, potassium, and manganese.

Cayenne Pepper has been used as a natural remedy as it has so many medicinal benefits such as easing an upset tummy, ulcers, sore throats, coughs, clears congestion, anti fungal, relief from headaches and migraines, digestive aid, PREVENTS AND REDUCES BLOD CLOTS, joint pain relief, supports weight loss, good for heart health and chronic and degenerative diseases.

And just in case you need to know… it is a topical remedy for snake bites!


CINNAMON

Cinnamon provides a lovely flavour. It contains manganese, iron and calcium.

Another natural medicine, it is reported to improve colon health, protect against heart disease, boost brain function, and anti clotting. It has anti microbial activity which means it helps prevent overgrowth such as yeast which causes candida.

Traditionally cinnamon has been used in drinks for it’s warming affect on the body.


CARDOMON PODS

ORANGE ZEST

Once I found out how many nutrients were contained in what used to end up wasted in my bin, I keep looking for ways to use orange peel in my recipes. It works so well in this smoothie, it adds the perfect choc/orange flavour which is one of my favourites.

Orange zest is packed full of over 60 types of flavonoids, more than 170 phytonutrients, rich in various pectin’s, vitamins, minerals and fibre.

It helps with weight loss, relieves respiratory problems, prevents digestive issues, improves oral health, protects from cancer and improves heart health.

You might want to bare this in mind next time you peel and orange!


WATER

This smoothie is made using water, and therefore very hydrating.

Ok, so now you know how great this smoothie is for your health and well being, it’s time to try it and taste for yourself just how incredibly SCRUMDIDDLEYUMPTIOUS it is!!!

I tend not to make this smoothie for the younger children, it is far too stimulating and they have enough energy as it is! So I usually whiz up the bananas, nuts, dates, lucuma and maca first to give them a glass each, and then I add the other ingredients for Luke and I.

I often make a litre of this smoothie just for me, and drink it all morning serving me well until Lunch.

Here is the recipe, I hope you enjoy it as much a we do! Please do tell me if you try it, I would absolutely love your feedback.


INGREDIENTS

2 Large Bananas
2 handfuls of soaked Almonds
1 handful of Dates
Litre cold water
2 tablespoons Cacao
1 tablespoon Maca
1 tablespoon Lucuma
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 Cardamom pods
Grated Zest of 1 Orange

Blend all the ingredients in your high speed blender until all the ingredients are smooth. Serve and enjoy!

A little tip…. If you peel and freeze your bananas first, your smoothie will resemble an ice cream shake, perfect for warmer weather.
